SUMMARY:Embracing Women of Color as Leaders: How We Move from the First\, The Few\, The Only to the Many
DESCRIPTION:Deepa Purushothaman\, founder of nFormation and author of The First\, The Few\, The Only: How Women of Color can Redefine Power in Corporate America\, is offering a counter-narrative for women in the workplace: rather than conforming to rigid\, male-centric standards for what it means to be a leader\, women can tap into being fully themselves\, embracing the power and wisdom that come with authenticity. And as Conscious Leaders\, we can all work towards cultivating a culture where women leaders can maximize their potential at work. \nDuring this Virtual Gathering\, Deepa will draw from her own experience as an Indian-American woman in the corporate world\, including her time as a Deloitte partner\, to offer captivating alternatives to the modes of leadership we’ve been taught. She will also offer her take on how fellow leaders in the workplace can support an inclusive and equitable environment for women\, people of color\, and other underrepresented groups. \n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\nDeepa Purushothaman Author & Co-Founder\, nFormation\n\nDeepa is the author of The First\, The Few\, The Only: How Women of Color can Redefine Power in Corporate America and the co-founder of nFormation\, a company that provides a brave\, safe\, and new space for professionals who are women of color. Prior to this\, Deepa spent more than twenty years at Deloitte and was ‘a first’: an Indian American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in the company’s history. In her time there\, she helped grow Deloitte’s Social Impact Practice\, served as a National Managing Partner of Inclusion\, and served as the Managing Partner of WIN—the firm’s renowned program to recruit\, retain\, and advance women. \n  \nFocusing on women’s leadership and inclusion strategies\, Deepa’s mission is to help women of color navigate the complex and often opaque corporate structures of today—helping them not only take a seat at the table\, but change the way the table is formed. \n  \nDespite being one of the fastest-growing segments in the corporate workforce\, women of color remain underrepresented—often among the first\, few\, or only ones in a department or company. Deepa knows this first-hand\, and today\, she uses her experience as a senior executive specializing in diversity\, equity\, and inclusion\, to provide disruptive solutions for businesses that need to evolve. Her empowering talks\, as well as her upcoming book\, help us redefine power and profitability in corporate America—creating organizations that are truly inclusive for all.
