SUMMARY:B Corp Community Q&A Fall Series\, Part 2: Growth & Evolving Standards
DESCRIPTION:Join B Lab U.S. & Canada for a Q&A session for the B Corp community around the growth of the community and B Lab’s evolving standards. \n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nAbout the B Corp Community Q&A Series\nIn an effort to provide transparency and information about issues important to the B Corp community\, B Lab U.S. & Canada will host a two-part Fall webinar series in September and October. After a brief introduction\, we will spend time answering selected questions submitted in advance via the event registration form\, and will provide additional time for attendees to ask questions live of our team. \nThis second session on October 4 will include information about the recent growth of the B Corp community and evolution of B Lab’s standards for Certified B Corporations. The first session (Part 1) will happen on September 20 and will cover the phased pricing update. Learn more and register here for Part 1. \nAbout the October 4 Session: The Growing B Corp Community and the Evolution of B Lab’s Standards\nIn today’s business climate\, companies of all sizes are considering how they can rethink business practices and improve their social and environmental impact. Over the past two years this has led to a huge acceleration in both the number of Certified B Corporations and companies applying for certification. The growing visibility of the B Corp movement invites scrutiny\, and rightfully so. There have been conversations about B Lab’s standards and certification among B Corps\, sustainability advocates\, consumers\, and other stakeholders. This has grown as we welcome larger\, more complex businesses into the B Corp movement. \nThis feedback is welcome. Our movement is built on continuous improvement and stakeholder input — both are critical to the ongoing evolution of our standards. B Lab sets rigorous standards not to designate perfect companies\, but to provide a framework for systemic change. For a recent overview of B Lab responses to community members’ questions\, refer to this June blog post. \nDuring this 60-minute session\, we will welcome pre-submitted B Corp and B Corp-adjacent community members’ questions about this growth and evolution\, and will provide additional time to respond to questions live. Speakers will include: \n\nEleanor Allen\, Lead Executive\, B Lab Global\nJodi Beasley\, Senior Director of Community\, B Lab U.S. & Canada\nSarah Ford\, Senior Community Success Manager\, B Lab U.S. & Canada\nJorge Fontanez\, CEO\, B Lab U.S. & Canada\nDan Osusky\, Head of Standards and Insights\, B Lab Global\nLindsey Wilson\, Associate Director of Growth\, B Lab U.S. & Canada\n\nWho Should Attend?\nThese webinars are geared toward our community of current Certified B Corporation businesses and B Corp-adjacent communities or networks like B Academics\, B Local members\, growth partners and B Corp consultants. \nSubmitting Questions\nQuestions you would like to see addressed during the Q&A portion of the webinar can be submitted in advance during registration. General questions can be directed to community@bcorporation.net.

SUMMARY:Behind the B: B Corp 101
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\nYou may have seen the Certified B Corporation (or the “circle-B”) logo on many of your favorite products\, but what does that little stamp really mean? Join us as we go behind the scenes – Behind the B – to learn what it takes for a business to become a B Corp. \nWho should attend? \nAll are welcome! This event is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about what it means for a business to become a Certified B Corporation. Whether you’re an employee of a B Corp looking to learn more\, a business that’s interested in certifying\, or a general supporter of socially and environmentally responsible business – this event is for everyone! \nAbout Certified B Corporations (B Corps) \nB Corp Certification means that a business meets high standards of verified performance\, accountability\, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. These companies are certified by the nonprofit\, B Lab. In order to achieve certification\, a company must: \n\nDemonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.\nMake a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders\, not just shareholders\, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.\nExhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.\n\nAs leaders in the movement for economic systems change\, B Corps reap remarkable benefits. They build trust with consumers\, communities\, and suppliers; attract and retain employees; and draw mission-aligned investors. As they are required to undergo the verification process every three years in order to recertify\, B Corps are by definition also focused on continuous improvement\, leading to their long-term resiliency.

SUMMARY:Embracing Women of Color as Leaders: How We Move from the First\, The Few\, The Only to the Many
DESCRIPTION:Deepa Purushothaman\, founder of nFormation and author of The First\, The Few\, The Only: How Women of Color can Redefine Power in Corporate America\, is offering a counter-narrative for women in the workplace: rather than conforming to rigid\, male-centric standards for what it means to be a leader\, women can tap into being fully themselves\, embracing the power and wisdom that come with authenticity. And as Conscious Leaders\, we can all work towards cultivating a culture where women leaders can maximize their potential at work. \nDuring this Virtual Gathering\, Deepa will draw from her own experience as an Indian-American woman in the corporate world\, including her time as a Deloitte partner\, to offer captivating alternatives to the modes of leadership we’ve been taught. She will also offer her take on how fellow leaders in the workplace can support an inclusive and equitable environment for women\, people of color\, and other underrepresented groups. \n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\nDeepa Purushothaman Author & Co-Founder\, nFormation\n\nDeepa is the author of The First\, The Few\, The Only: How Women of Color can Redefine Power in Corporate America and the co-founder of nFormation\, a company that provides a brave\, safe\, and new space for professionals who are women of color. Prior to this\, Deepa spent more than twenty years at Deloitte and was ‘a first’: an Indian American woman and one of the youngest people to make partner in the company’s history. In her time there\, she helped grow Deloitte’s Social Impact Practice\, served as a National Managing Partner of Inclusion\, and served as the Managing Partner of WIN—the firm’s renowned program to recruit\, retain\, and advance women. \n  \nFocusing on women’s leadership and inclusion strategies\, Deepa’s mission is to help women of color navigate the complex and often opaque corporate structures of today—helping them not only take a seat at the table\, but change the way the table is formed. \n  \nDespite being one of the fastest-growing segments in the corporate workforce\, women of color remain underrepresented—often among the first\, few\, or only ones in a department or company. Deepa knows this first-hand\, and today\, she uses her experience as a senior executive specializing in diversity\, equity\, and inclusion\, to provide disruptive solutions for businesses that need to evolve. Her empowering talks\, as well as her upcoming book\, help us redefine power and profitability in corporate America—creating organizations that are truly inclusive for all.

SUMMARY:The Social Impact Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:The Social Impact Roundtable will be held from 10 a.m. to noon\, on Wednesday\, February 16\, in TECO Hall. \nSocial entrepreneurism is a strategy practiced by both for-profit and nonprofit innovators to develop mission-driven ventures\, products and services\, and solutions with the goal of having a positive measurable impact on society. Bell\, founder and CEO of Fraud Doctor\, followed by a roundtable discussion on the topics of social and economic impact. For the first half hour of the event\, community attendees will also receive a tour of University Campus. Dr. Gesner noted that the roundtable is a first step of a larger university strategy that will include programs\, professional development opportunities\, and thought leadership in the social entrepreneurship realm. \nThe Social Impact Roundtable is being hosted by Saint Leo in partnership with many area organizations\, including the SMARTstart Pasco\, the Hillsborough County Entrepreneur Collaborative Center\, the Tampa Bay EDC\, the Nonprofit Collaborative\, Florida for Good\, and Basil Data. \nThe Social Impact Roundtables are free and open to all but reservations are required to attend as space is limited. \nTo RSVP or request special accommodations\, please send your full name to Mehak Arora at mehak.arora@saintleo.edu.
