SUMMARY:Fridays for Future Global Climate Strike
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the next Orlando Climate Strike! \nAs Floridians\, we live in the state that will bear the biggest effects of the climate crisis. Help us send a message that we can do better in climate action! Last climate strike\, we made history in Florida as some of the 600\,000 strikers across the U.S. and 4 million strikers worldwide who took to the streets to call for climate action on Sept. 20. We’ve seen Orlando’s climate strikes grow from 11 people in March to 35 people in May to now more than 300 strong! And this is still only the beginning. But we need your help to grow the movement in Central Florida. \nWe will be meeting in-front of Orlando’s City Hall\, holding handmade recycled signs\, hearing speeches from environmental leaders\, peacefully marching through downtown Orlando\, and convening with an after party event TBD to encourage further climate action conversations for attendees. \n*Please bring a homemade sign on recycled material regarding climate action you would like to see in Florida.\n*Please WEAR GREEN to support this day of action. \nSwedish 16-year-old Greta Thunberg started Fridays For Future\, a movement that has sparked students in 150 different countries to strike weekly\, organizing by the tens\, hundreds and even thousands to stand up to local leaders and demand for action to mitigate climate change. On September 20\, there was be a Global Climate Strike\, which invites adults to join students in solidarity\, amplifying their calls to action. December 6th\, let’s make our voice heard more than ever! \nWhy are we striking?\nFlorida needs to be a nation-wide leader in climate action but is falling short. Florida should be leaders in renewable energy\, zero waste initiatives\, protecting vulnerable ecosystems\, environmental justice\, and respect of indigenous land and sovereignty. \nThis is the demands of the Global Climate Strike led by Strike With Us:\nhttps://strikewithus.org/#demands \nThis is the petition Climate Strike Orlando is pushing forward: https://www.change.org/p/joseph-abruzzo-demand-state-renewable-energy-goals-for-florida-support-hb97-sb256 \nJoin us to spread awareness for climate action through our presence and our words. No matter who you are\, your voice matters to peacefully call for action for our environment. \nInstagram: @FridaysForFutureOrlando \nQuestions? Email events@ideasforus.org

SUMMARY:IDEAS Hive -- Let's Love Our Oceans
DESCRIPTION:Oceans are an essential part of the social\, economic and environmental health of our world. Thomas Wahl\, Ph.D.\, dedicates his life to researching the connection between Civil Engineering and the impacts of sea level rise to the plants’ most vulnerable coastal regions. Come join us for a presentation on erosion\, coastal adaptation and how we can prioritize the health of our oceans for the future. \nAbout Thomas Wahl\, Ph.D.\nThomas Wahl is an Assistant Professor for Coastal Risks and Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF)\, where he am affiliated with the Civil\, Environmental\, and Construction Engineering Department and the National Center for Integrated Coastal Research (UCF Coastal). He obtained a Diploma in 2007 and PhD in 2012 in Civil Engineering at the University of Siegen in Germany. Afterwards\, he took a postdoc position at the College of Marine Science at the University of South Florida. Before joining UCF in 2017 he was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow of the European Union in Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton\, UK. Through his research he connects engineering and various science disciplines (e.g.\, oceanography\, hydrology\, meteorology\, climatology) to better understand the vulnerability of coastal societies\, built infrastructure\, and fragile ecosystems under climate change conditions. He studies changes in coastal sea levels (mean and extreme)\, ocean waves\, and freshwater flows and the associated impacts to support the development of sustainable and resilient adaptation strategies. \nPlease note: If you are unable to attend a program\, cancelling your reservation gives us an accurate count of how many to expect; for sold-out programs\, cancelling your reservation also allows someone on the waitlist to attend in your place.\nCancelling can be done in two easy ways: by calling 407.644.2492 and selecting Option 1 to speak to a representative or by using the online ticket cancellation option in your original confirmation email from Eventbrite.

SUMMARY:Synapse Summit 2020
DESCRIPTION:Three Pillars of Synapse\nTo build a flourishing innovation hub in Florida\, you need to discover everything the state has to offer. Through the 3 Pillars of Synapse\, we give the community the opportunity to connect\, solve problems and come together.\n\n\n\n\n\nFirst\, we have Synapse Connect which is a unique platform that connects entrepreneurs\, investors\, corporations\, service providers\, governments and more. \nFrom there\, these innovators can test their ingenuity through our Synapse Challenges and translate their ideas into real-world solutions. You can think of it as crowdsourcing to solve problems within the innovation community. \nFinally\, our signature Synapse Events bring the community together to have meaningful dialogues\, brainstorm\, be inspired\, and learn from our speakers and panelists. \nWorking together\, our hub is helping to create economies centered around innovation.

SUMMARY:Cinema Verde International Environmental Film & Arts Festival
DESCRIPTION:Cinema Verde’s mission is to provide environmental education to the public through film\, arts\, workshops\, events\, tours and any other forum or media; to increase public awareness of environmental practices that enhance public health and improve quality of life in urban\, suburban and rural settings. We bring community organizations\, businesses and citizens together to help forge sustainable solutions for our future. \nWHY AN ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL?\n\n\nOur films tell powerful\, enlightening\, and inspiring stories about people working to make a better world. \n\n\nFrom A to Z\, the films illustrate our interdependence with animals\, climate\, chemicals\, economics\, energy\, food\, happiness\, nature\, resources\, waste\, and water — and zero in on solutions. \n\n\nOur logo\, the passion flower\, represents our desire to inspire a passion in everyone for clean air\, pure water\, untainted food\, and the beauty of the earth\, because that is what sustains us and makes life worth living. \n\n\nMore questions about our festival?
