Join us as we go behind the scenes – Behind the B – to learn what it takes for a business to become a B Corp. \nWho should attend? \nAll are welcome! This event is open to anyone who is interested in learning more about what it means for a business to become a Certified B Corporation. Whether you’re an employee of a B Corp looking to learn more\, a business that’s interested in certifying\, or a general supporter of socially and environmentally responsible business – this event is for everyone! \nAbout Certified B Corporations (B Corps) \nB Corp Certification means that a business meets high standards of verified performance\, accountability\, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. These companies are certified by the nonprofit\, B Lab. In order to achieve certification\, a company must: \n\nDemonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.\nMake a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders\, not just shareholders\, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.\nExhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.\n\nAs leaders in the movement for economic systems change\, B Corps reap remarkable benefits. They build trust with consumers\, communities\, and suppliers; attract and retain employees; and draw mission-aligned investors. As they are required to undergo the verification process every three years in order to recertify\, B Corps are by definition also focused on continuous improvement\, leading to their long-term resiliency.

She is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors\, President of Bridgeway Funds\, and serves on committees including: Portfolio Innovation and Risk \, Responsible Investing \, Enterprise Risk\, and Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion. Tammira’s responsibilities include development and execution of the firm’s strategy\, oversight of all operations\, and contributing to the marketing and client service efforts. Prior to becoming President and CEO\, Tammira led strategy and operations projects at Bridgeway from 2005 to 2010 and was Head of Client Service and Marketing from 2010 to 2016. Tammira earned an MBA from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and graduated summa cum laude with a BS in Computer Science from Texas A&M University. Her experience prior to Bridgeway includes strategy consulting with McKinsey & Company and business development and marketing for a global satellite communications startup. Tammira is passionate about promoting education and social justice\, two areas that are fulfilled through her professional work and volunteer service. Beyond Bridgeway\, Tammira serves on the Stanford GSB Advisory Council\, Texas A&M University Computer Science and Engineering Advisory Council\, CFA Houston Strategic Advisory Board\, and the Investment Committee of the Terry Foundation\, a scholarship provider that supported her undergraduate education. Tammira previously served as the Chair of the Community Advisory Board and Director of the Education Foundation of Harris County. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTamla Wilson Director of Institutional Relations\, Bridgeway Capital Management\n\nTamla is a Director of Institutional Relations at Bridgeway Capital Management where she focuses on developing and nurturing Bridgeway’s relationships with institutional investors. She also serves as Chair of Bridgeway’s ESG @Work Committee and member of the Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion Committee. Tamla joined Bridgeway in 2014 with more than 20 years of experience in the financial services and insurance industries\, most recently with JP Morgan Chase. Prior to JP Morgan Chase\, Tamla was Vice President of Business Development\, responsible for expanding and managing institutional client relationships at Smith Graham & Co. Her experience also includes marketing and sales positions with AIM Investments\, The Guardian\, and State Farm. Tamla received her BA in English from the University of Texas at Austin and was a Texas Honor Achievement Award Recipient. An ordained minister\, she completed her Doctor of Ministry\, as well as her MA in Theology and Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary. She is a board member for the Interfaith Ministries of Greater Houston and Off the Field Players’ Wives Association. A founder of The Waiting Room infertility ministry\, Tamla also founded the group Capes Off\, Masks On\, which focuses on holistic self-care for Black women in ministry. DESCRIPTION:The Social Impact Roundtable will be held from 10 a.m. to noon\, on Wednesday\, February 16\, in TECO Hall. \nSocial entrepreneurism is a strategy practiced by both for-profit and nonprofit innovators to develop mission-driven ventures\, products and services\, and solutions with the goal of having a positive measurable impact on society. Those who are successful in applying the principles of social entrepreneurship often find ingenious ways of balancing “mission and margin” so that they can employ financially sustainable ways to support the greater good. \nThe roundtable discussion will include opening remarks from social entrepreneur and guest igniter Alexis C. Bell\, founder and CEO of Fraud Doctor\, followed by a roundtable discussion on the topics of social and economic impact. For the first half hour of the event\, community attendees will also receive a tour of University Campus. She specializes in helping companies align their business with their values by implementing best practices for social and environmental responsibility. \nAs a B Corp Consultant\, she has helped businesses to achieve B Corp certification\, get recertified\, and to maintain their certifications. She is currently participating in a pilot program run by B Lab to train external verifiers and is receiving extensive training from B Lab in order to perform certification verifications independently. She is a frequent speaker presenting about B Corps at webinars and conferences\, including all three of the B Corp Leadership Development Conferences held in 2020. She serves on the Executive Committee for the B Corp Women CEOs We the Change movement\, supports the B Local activities in the SF Bay Area\, and was awarded the 2020 Community Builders award from B Lab for her contributions to the community.
