In 2015, while working in Washington, D.C. with the Obama Administration, I became painfully aware that all of the hours, votes, donations, petitions, and marches did not stand up to the thousands of dollars I was handing over to massive, profit-hungry corporations.
These companies were raking in billions while locking people in poverty, exploiting the natural world, and directly counteracting the impact that I was working to help create.
“But where can I go to discover companies that I can feel good about supporting?”
This question frustrated me. I found I wasn’t alone.
The number of socially and environmentally responsible brands was growing every day. These businesses were proving that you can earn a profit while still doing good for people, animals, and the planet. They were changing the world. But they were really hard to find.
So in the summer of 2015, I left the ‘routine’ behind. I joined with other talented (and funny) people who shared my belief that the dollars we spend can be the world’s greatest force for change. We created a company to make it simple for anyone to become a more empowered consumer. Our team has been working tirelessly ever since to uncover the world’s best purpose-driven brands so that we can all feel good about how we’re spending our dollars.
Since launching DoneGood, thousands of passionate and empowered consumers have joined our community. And together you’ve diverted hundred’s of thousands of dollars to brands that do good for people, animals, and the planet. This is a great start. But pretty soon—with your support—there’ll be millions of us.
And that’s when the ‘big guys’ will start to sweat.
