As the second-largest greenhouse gas emitter in the world, the U.S. will need to cut emissions nearly in half by 2030 and reach net-zero by 2040, a decade sooner than previously estimated, in order to limit global warming to 1.5* Celsius. While we expect the incoming Biden-Harris administration to strengthen emissions regulations, it’s incumbent on businesses to protect their own future by investing in becoming carbon neutral.
While we reduce fossil-fuel use, we also need to rethink consumer products based on fossil fuels. Plastics survive in the environment for years. A plastic bag can take anywhere from 10-1,000 years to decompose, and a plastic bottle can take 450 years.
While we rightly focus attention on emissions reductions, businesses can also contribute to a healthier ecosystem and their own resilience by reducing or eliminating single-use plastics in their products.
We will hear from Dan Bailey, president of Amavida Coffee Roasters, about his company’s journey to becoming carbon and plastics neutral.
