The second Social Entrepreneurship Education Day is scheduled for Earth Day 2019, Monday April 22, from 8:30am-3pm. Social entrepreneurship, and the change that it yields is one of the fastest growing areas within the field of entrepreneurship. Most people, no matter what their age or stage in life desire to feel a sense of purpose with what they are doing, and to positively contribute to making our world better. There are various elements that make up social change (social innovation (an idea), social entrepreneurship (a mindset), and social enterprise (a business). At its most basic level, social entrepreneurship is about doing business (for or nonprofit) for a social cause. Social entrepreneurs combine commerce and social issues in a way that improves the lives of people connected to the cause. They don’t measure their success in terms of profit alone – success to social entrepreneurs means that they have improved the world, however they define that.
This event is for anyone interested in learning more about social entrepreneurship as well as anyone practicing social entrepreneurship that is looking to share best practices, learn from others, exchange knowledge, and collaborate to build a better future. The day will feature keynote speakers, breakout sessions, lunch, and then an afternoon experiential prototyping session.Teams will then pitch their prototypes for prizes. if you are interested in sponsoring this event, or have further questions, please contact either Andy Gold (agold3@hccfl.edu), or Beth Kerly (mkerly@hccfl.edu).
